Thursday 2nd September ... a talk on the great bustard by vet John Chitty

 -------------------------------------------------------

The Society was founded in 1956 by our late President Mr Don Lewis.

Over the last 52 years the Society has gone from strength to strength growing in membership, which at present is standing at 60+.  We pride ourselves in being a friendly Society, welcoming new members, regardless of gender, age or creed.

We hold regular meetings on the first Wednesday of each month commencing 8pm at Three Score Club, Totton.

The attendance at the meetings is normally 30+ members.

The agenda for these meetings includes guest speakers, in house judging of birds, quiz nights as well as social gatherings of like minded people with a common interest.  Our social committee also organise various outings / events.

In 1971 the society was offered a stand at the New Forest Show.  We have displayed birds at this event ever since.  Each year the Society makes every effort to vary its display by introducing Themes and Activities associated with the birds.  This guarantees an abundance of interest for all age groups and ensures a positive contribution to the continued success of the New Forest Show.

Since the first event at the New Forest Show an estimated 10,000 birds have been displayed.  The various breeds can be categorized into:- Budgerigars, Canaries, British and Foreign Finches.  We have also exhibited some of the more unusual birds which include Humming birds; Zosterops, Orange-Cheeked and St Helena Waxbills as well as various Australian Finches, Turquoise and splendid Grass Parakeets and Love Birds.

In 2005, due to our success at the New Forest Show, the Society was invited to stage a bird display at the Romsey Show.  Which we hope will duplicate our success at the New Forest Show.
